Keep Your Dishwasher and Plumbing Happy with These Dishwasher Tips!

Your dishwasher is the unsung hero of your kitchen. Painstakingly doing all the dirty work for you, all you have to do it load it and unload it. Dishwashers don’t get enough credit. They really are one of the best modern household inventions! They save you time, and sanitize your dishes, which helps keep you from getting sick! Which is why you want to take care of your dishwasher! Keep your dishwasher in good shape with these dishwasher tips!

#1 Scrape Food Particles

One of the most important dishwasher tips is to scrape as much food particles from your dishes as possible. The less amount of food particles left on the plate, the better. Dried on food particles can be particularly difficult to remove, and can actually cause clogs by getting caught in your dishwasher filter.

#2 To Rinse or Not to Rinse That is the Question

There has long been a debate as to whether your need to rinse the dishes or not. The truth of the matter is that it really depends on your dishwasher. Many newer dishwashers have the technology to ascertain how dirty your dishes are, then adjust the cycle to fit the needs of the load. However, if you have an older dishwasher, you are probably better off rinsing. In the end, rinsing as much food particles off of your dishes is going to do your plumbing a favor by preventing clogs. At the end of the day, rinsing your dishes will help keep your dishwasher in good shape, and depending on how often you run your dishwasher, smelling great!

#3 Don’t Overload

Another important dishwasher tip has to do with how you load it. When it comes to loading the dishwasher you want to make sure there is enough space between the dishes for the water to actually clean the dishes. Dishes that are stacked on top of each other don’t allow for the flow of water to do its job! In addition, if you have dishes blocking the water propeller, your dishes aren’t getting cleaned either. Avoid overloading your dishwasher to ensure the best possible wash cycle.

#4 Clean Your Dishwasher

Over time, soap scum and debris can buildup at the bottom of your dishwasher. This can prevent proper dranage, and lead to other problems. You should make it a point to thoroughly clean out your dishwasher including the filter to keep things running smoothly and efficiently.

#5 Check for Damage

If you notice any damage to the racks of your dishwasher you should make repairs. Over time the little prongs can rust and break off, leading to damage of your dishwashers motor. Be proactive at making these repairs.
